The dramatic changes to the arctic and antarctic landscapes are a clear reflection of a rise in global average temperatures, triggering a massive melting of the polar ice-caps, largely due to the human activity. The Glacies collection provides a silent protest and an illustration of the effect of rising ocean temperatures on the polar landscape in the hope of raising awareness. Each piece in the collection has been crafted with iconic white alabaster originating in Volterra and representing the blinding ‘white’ of the polar ice caps. The bespoke glass atop the alabaster closely resembles the surrounding oceans and completes the illustration. The simplicity of the materials belies the complexity and sophistication of the pieces.
