fossilia collection
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, not the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change”
Charles Robert DARWIN (Naturalist, geologist & biologist), 1809
Fossils, nature’s personalised recollection of earth’s history provide a unique glimpse into the past. Petrified wood, also known as fossilised wood, is formed when plants are replaced by stone through a process of mineralization, creating some of the world’s oldest records of organic material. FMM presents the ‘fossila’ collection which seeks to celebrate and explore nature’s past through the use of fossilised wood in a uniquely crafted collection. This specific collection is derived from the fossilised wood of Madagascar dating back to the cretaceous period, roughly 145 million years ago. Witness to the era of the dinosaurs, each piece has retained much of its natural form and colour , a nod to an ancient past, whilst exploring its possibilities in modern design. The “maha” table set as well as the scortea side-table are truly expressions of the conceptualisation of a union between ancient and modern, with nature as the star witness.
